Virgin Islands
The United States Virgin Islands is an
External Territory of the US located in the Carribean Sea.
When a legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the governor may proclaim it to be observed on
the following Monday.
Organic Act Day, Supplication Day and Local Thanksgiving Day
are observed on the preceding Sunday.
 D. Hamilton Jackson Day, November 1. Commemorates the first press in the nation in 1915.
Transfer Day, March 31. On March 31, 1917, the United States purchased the islands from Denmark for $25 million.
Supplication Day, fourth Monday of July (Jul 26, 2004). Observed with prayer for safety through the hurricane season.
Local Thanksgiving Day, third Monday of October (Oct 18, 2004). A day of thanks for the end of the hurricane season.
Nicole Robin Day, August 4. On this day in 1973, the ship
Nicole Robin returned safely with her crew.
Organic Act Day, third Monday in June (Jun 21, 2004). On July 22, 1954, The US Congress enacted the Revised Organic Act which organizes
the government of the Virgin Islands.
Danish West Indies Emancipation Day, July 3. Celebrates the freedom for slaves in the Danish West Indies achieved in 1848.
