The Republic of China is composed mostly by Taiwan,
which lies off the coast of China.
Sun Yat-sen Day, November 12. Celebrates the birthday of Dr.
Sun Yat-sen (b.1866), leader of the Chinese Nationalist Party.
National Day, October 10. Commemorates the overthrow of the Manchu dynasty in 1911.
Also known as
Double Tenth Day.
Restoration Day, October 25. In 1945, after fifty years of occupation by the Japanese, Taiwan was returned to the
Chinese Nationalists.
Constitution Day, December 25.
Birthday of Matsu, occurs in April or May. Goddess of the sea.
Lantern Festival, occurs on 15th day of first moon. This festival marks the end of New Year's celebrations in all Chinese communities.

Birthday of Confucious, September 28. A school holiday observed by morning ceremonies at the Confucian Temple.
