Independence Day, November 11. On this day in 1918 Poland gained independence after 125 years of being partitioned
between Prussia, Russia, and Austria.
National Liberation Day, July 22.
On July 22, 1944 the Soviet-controlled communist party declared its "liberation manifesto"
and for 45 years they celebrated the anniversary.
Most Poles never recognized this holiday.
When the country regained its independence in 1990, this holiday was eliminated.
