The Kingdom of Norway on the north coast of
Scandinavia reaches into the Arctic Circle.
Constitution Day, May 17. Commemorates the publication in 1814 of a constitution, which was not fully implemented
until 1905, when Norway became free of Swedish control. Also called
Independence Day.
Freedom Day, May 8. V-E Day.
Olsok Eve Festival, July 29. Honors Saint Olaf, patron saint of Norway, on his feast day.
He was also King of Norway.
It was he who introduced Christianity into Norway.
Known in the United States as
Norway Day and observed by Norwegian-Americans.
Tyvendedagen, January 13. Occurs twenty days after Christmas, and officially ends the Yuletide ("Juletid")
in Norway.
A similar custom exists in Sweden.
