Independence Day, February 7. Anniversary of attainment of independence in 1974.
National Holiday, March 13.
Thanksgiving Day, October 25. Relations with the United States were strained when Maurice Bishop
took power in a bloodless coup and suspended the 1974 Constitution.
Following another coup in which Bishop among others were executed,
the United States invaded Grenada on October 25, 1983.
They were accompanied by troups from Jamaica, Barbados, and other countries.
The Constitution was reinstated, and elections were held the following year.
