East and West Germany united in 1990.
Tag der Einheit, October 3. "Day of Unity".
A day observed with prayer for national unity.
Prior to reunification this day was observed on June 17, the anniversary of
the day in 1953 when a riot erupted in the Russian section of Berlin and
spread throughout Germany. A treaty signed between the
Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR)
indicated that lands of the GDR would accede to the FRG on October 3, 1990.
This has become the new date to celebrate Unity Day.
Day of Repentance, November 18. The German name is "Buss und Bettag".
Tag der Arbeiter, May 1. "Day of the Worker".
Labor Day.
Weihnachten, December 25. The German name for Christmas means "Holy Night".
Like Scandinavia, the presents are hidden.

National Day, May 23. Anniversary of the German Federal Republic in 1949.
Oktoberfest, occurs in September/October. The famous beer festival in Munich.
Similar fests are also held around the world.
Waldchestag, Tuesday after Whitsunday (Jun 1, 2004). Celebrated in Frankfurt.
East Germany
The German Democratic Republic was abolished in 1990 when
East Germany was merged with West Germany.

Foundation Day, October 7. Was a national holiday commemorating the proclamation of the state on
this day in 1949.
