The Kingdom of Denmark consits of the
Jutland peninsula and several islands in Scandinavia.
Constitution Day, June 5. Commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the constitution of 1849
which made Denmark a constitutional monarchy, and commemorates the
constitution of 1953, adopted on this day.
Valdemar's Day, June 15. Anniversary of the victory by King Valdemar in 1219.
According to legend, the Danish flag descended from heaven to bring
victory to King Valdemar.
Also known as Flag Day.
Birthday of Queen Margrethe II, April 16. Also observed in Greenland.
Common Prayer Day, fourth Friday after Easter (May 7, 2004). Also called
Store Bededag.
Liberation Day, May 5. Anniversary of the end of Nazi occupation during World War II which lasted
from 1940 to 1945.
Skaertorsdag, Thursday before Easter (Apr 8, 2004). Holy Thursday.
Langfredag, Friday before Easter (Apr 9, 2004). Good Friday.
