The Republic of Cameroon is on the west coast of Africa.
Commemoration of National Institutions Day, May 10. The Legislative Assembly met for the first time on this day in 1957.
Independence Day, January 1. On this day in 1960 French Cameroons was granted independence.
Unification Day, October 1. British Cameroons had been associated with its neighbor Nigeria, which became independent in
1960.
Following this, the northern region voted to merge with Nigeria as the province of Sardauna,
and the southern region voted to be unified with the Republic of Cameroon on October 1, 1961.
Constitution Day, May 20. The constitution was ratified on this day in 1972.
Youth Day, February 11.
Human Rights Day, December 10. Commemorates the day in 1948 when the United Nations produced the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
